Adverts

Schedule banners and product promotions in your store and see how many customers tap them.

What it does

Adverts are the banners, full screen promotions and promoted products your customers see while browsing your store.

Every advert lives in a placement - a fixed spot in the store, such as a banner on a category screen. You create the placement once, then add, schedule and reorder the adverts that appear in it.

When to use it

Use it to promote a supplier deal, a seasonal range or a single product for a set period, and to check afterwards how many customers saw and tapped it.

Steps

Create a placement

  1. Open eCommerce → Adverts.
  2. Select Add Placement.
  3. Choose a Placement Type: Banner or Carousel.
  4. Choose where it appears in Placement Location Lookup. The list shows your store categories, with their full path so you can tell similar names apart.
  5. Select Save. The new placement appears in the list.

Create an advert

  1. Open eCommerce → Adverts and select the placement you want to use.
  2. Select Create Advert.
  3. In Description, write a short note for your own team, such as the supplier or campaign name. It is not shown to customers.
  4. For a banner or full screen placement, use the Media section: stay on the Image tab (or switch to Video if your store has video adverts), select Select media, then upload a file or pick one from your library. See Media.
  5. For a carousel placement, enter the SKUs of the products you want to promote under Product SKUs. Use Add SKU for each extra product, or paste a list separated by commas or new lines (for example SKU1, SKU2, SKU3) to fill in one field per SKU. Each SKU is saved as its own product advert with the same description and schedule, in the order you list them.
  6. For a banner or full screen placement, choose an Action Type in the Action section and fill in the field it shows - a URL, a Product SKU, or several under Product SKUs. See Advert actions.
  7. In Schedule, set the Start Date and Start Time. To stop the advert automatically, turn on Schedule an end date/time and set the End Date and End Time. Without an end date the advert runs until you end it. You cannot choose a start date in the past, and the end date cannot be earlier than the start date.
  8. Select Save.

What you'll see

The placement list shows each placement, its Location, and how many of its adverts are Live and Scheduled right now.

Inside a placement, each advert row shows its picture or SKU, your description, its type (Media or Product), its status, the start and end dates, and its performance:

  • Live - showing in the store now.
  • Scheduled - saved, with a start date in the future.
  • Archived - finished, either because its end date passed or because you ended it.
  • Impressions - how many times the advert was shown. Product adverts show a dash.
  • Actioned - how many times customers tapped it, with the percentage in brackets. Product adverts show a dash.
  • Order - the position in the placement. Lower numbers are shown first.

Use the status filter above the table to switch between Active (live and scheduled) and Archived.

An advert goes live at the start date and time you set.

If something goes wrong

  • A placement with this type and location already exists: that combination is already set up. Close the dialog and open the existing placement from the list instead.
  • Required: choose both a Placement Type and a Placement Location Lookup before selecting Save.
  • No eCommerce store linked to this company: adverts need a linked store. Contact your onboarding manager.
  • No placements found. Add a placement to get started: create your first placement with Add Placement.
  • No adverts found. Create an advert to get started: the placement is empty. Select Create Advert.
  • No archived adverts found: nothing has finished or been ended in this placement yet. Switch the filter back to Active.
  • Store not found / Failed to update advert order: try again, and if it keeps happening contact your onboarding manager.
  • There is no Video tab: video adverts are switched on per store. Use an image, or contact your onboarding manager to have video enabled.
  • Please select an image or video: a banner or full screen advert needs a file. Open the Media section, select Select media and choose or upload one.
  • Please select a start date / Invalid start date: open Start Date and pick a date before saving.
  • Please enter a product SKU / Please enter one SKU per field: enter one SKU in each field, exactly as it appears in your product data. Check it under eCommerce → Products.
  • Please enter at least one product SKU: the action you chose needs a product. Fill in Product SKU, or under Product SKUs enter at least one SKU.
  • Please remove duplicate product SKUs: each SKU can appear only once in a View Product List advert or in one batch of carousel adverts. Remove the repeated ones. When you paste a list, repeated SKUs are skipped automatically and listed under the fields.
  • Please enter a URL / Please enter an action button title: the action you chose needs these. Fill them in, or set Action Type to None.
  • Fields are greyed out: the advert is live. Only Description can be changed. End it and create a replacement to change anything else.
  • The advert doesn't open when selected: archived adverts cannot be opened. Use Duplicate on a live or scheduled advert to reuse its settings.
  • The advert isn't in the store yet: check the start date and time, that its status is Live, and that you are looking at the screen the placement is set to. A product advert with a SKU that does not match a product in your catalogue is saved without warning but shows nothing, so check the SKU under eCommerce → Products.

Placement types

  • Banner - a wide image or video strip on the screen you chose.
  • Carousel - a scrollable row of promoted products. Carousel placements take product adverts only; you enter a SKU rather than an image.
  • Full Screen - a full screen promotion. These are set up for you, so they appear in your placement list but cannot be added with Add Placement. Contact your onboarding manager if you need one.

Advert actions

An Action Type decides what happens when a customer taps a banner or full screen advert:

  • None - the advert is not tappable.
  • Open Link - opens the URL you enter.
  • View Product - opens the product details for the Product SKU you enter.
  • Add to Basket - adds the Product SKU you enter to the customer's basket.
  • Add to List - adds the Product SKU you enter to the customer's list.
  • View Product List - opens a list of the products you enter under Product SKUs. Use Add SKU for each extra product and Remove SKU to take one out. The products are shown in the order you list them.

Full screen adverts also need an Action Button Title whenever an action is set - this is the wording on the button customers tap, such as Shop Now.

Ordering adverts

In the Active view, drag the handle at the start of a row, or use the up and down arrows in the Order column, to change the order adverts appear in. Adverts are ordered within their own type, so media adverts reorder among media adverts and product adverts among product adverts. The new order is saved as soon as you drop the row. Archived adverts cannot be reordered.

Recommended media sizes

  • Banner adverts: 46:9 (5.11:1), for example 1380px wide by 270px high.
  • Full screen adverts: 1080x1920px (9:16 portrait).

Anything that is not the recommended shape is cropped to fit, so keep text and logos near the centre.

Editing, ending and duplicating

Select a live or scheduled advert in the list to open it.

  • Scheduled adverts can be changed in full, including media, action and schedule.
  • Live adverts can only have their Description changed. To change anything else, end the advert and create a replacement.
  • Archived adverts cannot be opened. Their details stay visible in the Archived list, and Export includes them unless they were ended with End Now.

Duplicate opens a new advert form pre-filled with the current advert's media, action, SKUs, description and end date. Set a fresh start date and save it as a separate advert - handy for rerunning a campaign.

End Now, in the Danger Zone on a live advert, archives it immediately and removes it from the store. This cannot be undone; you would need to create the advert again.

Exporting

Export on a placement downloads its adverts as Excel (.xlsx) or CSV (.csv), including start and end dates, media links, SKUs, impressions, actioned counts and the actioned percentage. Adverts you have ended with End Now are left out. Use it to report on a campaign or to keep a record before making changes.

Invoices

Show signed-in customers their own PDF invoices on the storefront, ready to view and pay.

Notifications

Schedule push notifications to your store app customers, add a tappable action, and see how many people saw and used them.
