Template status and quality

Understand whether a WhatsApp template can send and how customers are responding to it.

Template status

The status badge on the Templates page shows whether Meta currently allows a template to be sent:

  • Approved: the template has passed review and can be sent.
  • Pending: Meta is still reviewing the template. Most reviews finish quickly, but Meta can occasionally take more than 24 hours.
  • Rejected: the template did not pass review. Open it to see the reason and what to change.
  • In appeal: Meta is reviewing an appeal against a rejection.
  • Paused: Meta has temporarily stopped the template after negative customer feedback.
  • Disabled: Meta has stopped the template after repeated negative feedback.

A warning beside a template name means it cannot currently be sent. Point to the warning to see why. The banner above the template list shows account-level issues that can affect every template, together with Meta's suggested solution.

While Meta is reviewing a template, its template page checks for status updates automatically. You can leave the page while the review continues and come back later. If a template is still pending after a day, we suggest creating it again — just give the new template a different name.

Quality rating

Meta gives approved templates a quality rating based on customer feedback, including blocks, reports and message engagement:

  • High quality: little or no negative feedback.
  • Medium quality: some negative feedback; review the message before its rating falls further.
  • Low quality: significant negative feedback; the template is at risk of being paused or disabled.
  • Not enough data: the template has not been sent to enough people for Meta to calculate a rating yet.

Open a template to see when its quality rating was last updated. If quality falls, check that the message is useful, expected and being sent only to an appropriate opted-in audience.

Fix a rejected template

Open the rejected template to see Meta's explanation and possible solution. Depending on the reason, you can:

  1. Edit the content or formatting and submit it for review again.
  2. Change the category if it does not match the message content.
  3. Request a review in Meta Business Manager if you believe the decision was incorrect.

Before resubmitting, check that placeholders are correctly formatted and that the content follows WhatsApp's business and commerce policies.
